9 June, Monday (Arrowtown)

Took a local bus to the former gold mining town of Arrowtown. It is a living, historic holiday destination. This is one of the locations that they filmed Lord of the Rings. Indeed the natural reserve provides a beautiful scene for a shot. Stunning autumn colours among the trees mixed with white covering on the ground left behind by last night snow. It is a great place to take a stroll and do some quiet reflection. There is also a abandoned Chinese settlement left behind by the Chinese gold miners. Rather rich history on gold mining in this area.

I love the shop houses along Buckingham Street, the town’s main street and the lanes and arcades around it, are a shopping attraction, offering a wide range of quality products including fashion, galleries, jade, gifts and local wines.
Well, that’s my last stop in Queenstown. Off to catch the flight back to Auckland to meet up with Dawn. Had Wendy’s burger for dinner and no, I don’t like it.
